USC Upstate Men’s Tennis Signs Diniz for 2020 Season

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate head men's tennis coach Tim McLane has announced the signing of Guilherme Diniz and will join the Spartans for the upcoming 2020 campaign.

A native of Manaus, Brazil, Diniz attended Colegio Saber while playing primarily on the ITF Juniors circuit.

"We're really excited to have Guilherme joining us in the fall," said McLane. "He's going to bring a really strong work ethic to the team and he's hungry to get in here and start competing."

Diniz has reached as high as No. 635 in the ITF junior rankings in his career which came in April of 2018. He won the doubles championship in October of 2017 at the Grade 4 El Prat. Diniz also advanced to the doubles quarterfinals in August of 2017 at the Grade 4 Vina del Mar, and round of 16 in October of 2018 at the Grade 3 Salvador and April of 2018 at the Grade 1 Vilena. In singles play, Diniz has advanced as high as the semifinals of the Grade 4 Vina del Mar in August of 2017. He reached the round of 16 singles at the Grade 3 Salvador in October of 2018 and second round at the Grade 1 Vilena in April of 2018.

"With his strong game off the ground and his work ethic he's going to contribute right away in both singles and doubles and help to push our older guys on the team," McLane added.

Diniz has compiled a career-high Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 12.20 in July of 2018. Currently, he has a UTR of 11.18 in singles and 11.49 in doubles.
