Men’s Basketball Preview:  at Western Michigan

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team returns to the road on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a 2 p.m. tipoff against the Western Michigan Broncos at University Arena.

USC Upstate (1-6) played its second home game of the season on Wednesday evening and dropped a 74-61 non-conference decision to Gardner-Webb at Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center. Deion Holmes led all players offensively with a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Nevin Zink just missed on his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Jure Span dished out a game-high five assists.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 35.1 percent (20-of-57) from the field and held a 23-10 advantage in second chance points.

Malik Moore leads USC Upstate offensively this season averaging a team-high 12.9 points per game. Holmes contributes 12.8 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. Span dishes out a team-leading 4.3 assists per game.

Western Michigan currently sits at 4-3 on the season after falling to Nicholls State 62-61 on Nov. 24 at the Emerald Coast Classic. Seth Dugan leads three players in double-figures scoring with 18.9 points per game while also averaging a team-high 10.6 rebounds per contest. The Broncos are under the direction of 16th-year head coach Steve Hawkins.

The Spartans are facing Western Michigan for the first time in program history.
