Kills from the Kaylas Help Spartans Ground Owls, 3-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team (7-12, 2-5 A-Sun) swept Atlantic Sun Conference foe Kennesaw State (15-8, 4-4 A-Sun) 3-0 by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-23 Tuesday night in the Hodge Center.
The Spartans were once again paced by the Kaylas as sophomore Kayla McAvoy (Boiling Springs, S.C.) and freshman Kayla Eversgerd (Breese, Ill.) led all hitters, recording 15 kills and 12 kills, respectively. McAvoy posted a team-high three total blocks, including one solo rejection to go along with three digs, while Eversgerd scooped up seven digs. This marked both McAvoy and Eversgerd's third-straight double-digit kill performance.
Freshman Lexi Gober (Edwardsville, Ill.) quarterbacked the Upstate offense, handing out a match-high 33 assists in addition to collecting three digs and one kill. KSU's Sara Metroka dished out 27 assists on the night, while tallying one kill, one dig and two assisted blocks.
Upstate senior Emily Sanders (Sullivan, Ill.) anchored the Spartan defense, collecting a match-high 19 digs. She also recorded one kill on the night, while senior Emily Bingham (St. Petersburg, Fla.) registered seven kills to go along with four digs and two service aces. Freshman Shannon Weiss (Highland, Ill.) posted two kills and five digs, while junior Morgan Page (Woodstock, Ga.) added eight digs for the Spartans.
The Owls were led by Keyaira Stevenson with nine kills and three digs, while Turea Jones and Baylee Strachan each recorded six kills. Jones also gathered 14 digs on the night, while Camille Pedraza led Kennesaw State with 15 digs.
