SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team is back in action this weekend, welcoming UNC Charlotte to town Friday afternoon and traveling to UNC Asheville Saturday for a showdown with the Bulldogs.
The Spartans are coming off a 4-3 victory at Presbyterian last weekend and are looking to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
- Julie Bell and Taylor Cohen led the charge against Presbyterian last week, combining to pick up an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Cohen rolled at No. 1 singles and Bell capture a thriller at No. 4 singles.
- Constanze Kuerten is one of two players on the team with a perfect singles record after earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles last week against PC. She also teamed up with Talia Rojas in doubles play to grab a convincing 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot.
- Friday will serve as the season-opener for UNC Charlotte after the team's original opener was postponed last weekend against Radford due to inclement weather.
- UNC Asheville is currently 1-1 on the season, picking up a season-opening 7-0 victory over Lees-McRae and falling 4-3 on the road at Davidson.
Last Time Out: The USC Upstate women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, traveling to nearby Presbyterian College and sneaking by the Blue Hose 4-3 at the Templeton Tennis Courts. Upstate was unstoppable in doubles play, dropping just five total games and sweeping away Presbyterian to snag the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.
Next Time Out: After two matches in as many days this weekend, the Spartans will stay in town next Wednesday, welcoming nearby Wofford to town for a crosstown matchup with the Terriers.
