Women’s Tennis to Open 2011 Fall Slate Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's tennis team will kickoff its fall season with the annual Upstate Fall Classic.  The three-day event is slated to begin on Friday afternoon.

At the 2010 Upstate Fall Classic, Talia Rojas and Ana-Sofia Camberos advanced to the second round in singles 'A', but both Spartans fell in straight sets.  Rojas fell to Ali Beeler of Georgia Southern (4-6, 6-7), while Camberos was defeated by Vera Shkundina of Kennesaw State (0-6, 1-6).

The pair of Rojas and Camerbos advanced to the semifinals of the doubles 'B', but fell to Lourdes Ros and Dominek Wallaart of Campbell, 3-8.

Hannah Al-Sakati (Fr.), Julie Bell (Jr.), Lauren Byars (Fr.) and Isabel von Stryk (Fr.) join returners Ana-Sofia Camberos (Sr.), Talia Rojas (So.), Maria Tonani (Jr.) for the 2011-12 season.

• Dr. Oliver Trittenwein begins his second season at the helm of the Upstate tennis program.
