No. 75 Spartans Improve To 6-1 With 4-2 Win Over Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Carolina Bello showed some senior leadership with a huge three-set win at No. 5 singles to help lift the USC Upstate women's tennis team to a 4-2 win over Tennessee Tech on Thursday evenng at the Cookeville Indoor Tennis Center.

Upstate (6-1 overall) kicked off the match with a pair of tough three-set wins, as freshman Francisca Valderrama posted a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Leydi Zora at No. 1 singles. After a loss at No. 2, freshman Simona Cacciuttolo added a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Laura Porra.

A loss at No. 4 tied the match, setting the match up for a key battle at No. 5 and Bello came through with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Victoria Cran. Sophomore Ana-Sofia Camberos added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Katie Barnhill to clinch the win for Upstate.

Doubles was not played due to the length of the singles matches. Tennessee Tech fell to 0-4.

The Spartans wrap up the weekend with a pair of A-Sun matches, facing Belmont at 1 p.m. on Friday and Lipscomb at 10 a.m. on Saturday. They also face Murray State at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Lipscomb.
