Spartans Head South Wednesday for Tussle at No. 3 Florida
Spartanburg, S.C. – Riding a five-game winning streak, the USC Upstate softball team will hit the road for a non-conference showdown at No. 3 Florida Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Gainesville. It will be the first meeting between the Spartans and the Gators in a matchup featuring 48 combined wins on the season.
Upstate will play its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season Wednesday night. Previously, the Spartans dropped an 11-inning thriller to No. 20 Kentucky, 12-8, in the finale of the Coke Zero Spartan Classic on Feb. 24. Upstate enters Wednesday's game against the third-ranked Gators with a 21-2 overall record, having swept a three-game A-Sun series from Northern Kentucky and a two-game road doubleheader at UNC Wilmington last week. Florida enters the game with a 27-3 overall record, taking 2-of-3 from Tennessee last weekend.
Upstate is 1-7 against Top 25-ranked teams since moving to Division I in 2008, picking up its win against No. 23 Syracuse last year in the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.
