Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate softball team will host its third tournament of the season when Georgetown, Howard, #20 Kentucky and Presbyterian come to town for the Coke Zero Spartan Classic Saturday and Sunday at Cyrill Stadium.
The Coke Zero Spartan Classic was scheduled to be played Friday-Sunday, but rain expected to hit the Spartanburg area throughout the day on Friday caused the tournament to be shifted to a two-day event. The first game of the tournament will be played at 1:00 p.m. Saturday when Presbyterian plays Georgetown. Upstate will take on Howard at 3:00 p.m. in its only game on Saturday, and will face Georgetown Sunday morning at 11:00. The Spartans will close out the tournament against 20th-ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
Upstate enters the Coke Zero Spartan Classic with an 8-0 overall record. The Spartans are a combined 11-5 against the three teams it will face in the tournament. They stand 10-5 all-time against Presbyterian and 1-0 against Howard. Upstate and Kentucky have never played before.
