Upstate Softball Ranked 19th in Mid-Major Top 25 Poll

Spartanburg, S.C. – Following a 6-0 start to the season, the USC Upstate softball team is ranked 19th in the latest mid-major top 25 poll released by midmajorpoll.blogspot.com on Monday.

Upstate entered the poll last week at No. 24 and moved up five positions in the latest poll released Monday. The Spartans moved up in the poll after recording wins over Youngstown State, George Mason and UNC Wilmington. Lacey Dinney (Hannon, Ontario) highlighted the week by pitching a no-hitter against UNC Wilmington.

Upstate is one of two A-Sun schools listed in the poll with Stetson coming in at No. 21.

Louisiana-Lafayette, which is ranked in the national top 25 polls, is the top-ranked team in the mid-major top 25 poll. Hawaii is second and is followed by Fresno State, San Diego State, Houston, New Mexico State, UMass, Tulsa, BYU and New Mexico in the top 10.

McNeese State is ranked 11th in the poll and is followed in the top 20 by Fordham, Illinois State, Sacramento State, North Dakota State, Chattanooga, St. Joseph's, Boise State, Upstate and Eastern Kentucky. Stetson is 21st and is followed by Troy, UAB, Loyola Marymount and Western Kentucky.

Last year, Upstate secured the athletic department's first ever top 25 national ranking when it came in No. 25 in the ultimatecollegesoftball.com top 25 poll, a poll ranking all Division I college softball teams.
