Upstate Softball Nears Top 25 Ranking
UltimateCollegeSoftball.com Poll | NFCA/USA Today Poll | ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll
Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate softball team has opened the season with a perfect 24-0 record, and the strong start is reflected in the Spartans nearing the Top 25 in the UltimateCollegeSoftball.com Top 25 poll. Upstate is among other schools receiving votes in all three major college softball Top 25 polls which were released on Tuesday.
Upstate has received 37 points in the UltimateCollegeSoftball.com Top 25 poll and is just two spots out of the Top 25. If the poll were expanded, the Spartans would be ranked No. 27 behind Kentucky at No. 25 and Syracuse at No. 26. Notre Dame, Houston, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech are among other programs listed behind the Spartans.
For the first time this season, Upstate has received votes in the NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll, receiving three points. If the poll was expanded, the Spartans would be ranked No. 32. Upstate also appears in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll, receiving three points. The Spartans would be ranked No. 33 if that poll were expanded.
Upstate is one of five undefeated programs in Division I. The other four are ranked in the Top 25 in all three polls. Upstate joins Michigan (22-0), Texas Tech (22-0), Florida (19-0) and Washington (16-0) as undefeated teams in Division I. The Spartans will face Washington this Friday when they travel to Seattle to play in Washington's Husky Invitational, taking on the Huskies and Oregon State twice while playing Seattle once.
