JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the first game of a two-match conference road swing, the USC Upstate women's soccer team was downed by the Jacksonville Dolphins, 5-1, at the Ashley Sports Complex on Friday night.
The Dolphins (7-4-2, 3-1-1) took a 1-0 lead when Lisa Hensley scored in the 17th-minute. Courtney Conrad gave Jacksonville a 2-0 advantage with her goal in the 22nd-minute.
Liz Fink scored a pair of goals in the match (50' and 67') to give JU a 4-0 lead.
Rachel Curd (Lexington, Ky./Paul Laurence Dunbar HS) scored her first collegiate goal in the 89th-minute as Upstate (3-9-0, 1-3-0) cut the lead to 4-1.
JU tacked on the final goal of the night when Jelena Vrcelj scored in the final minute of play to set the final score at 5-1.
The Dolphins owned the advantage in shots (23-4), shots on-goal (12-3) and corner kicks (5-0). Upstate committed seven fouls, while JU committed six fouls and one offside penalty.
Upstate will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon when it faces North Florida at 2:00 p.m.
