Spartans Fall in Music City Finale
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In its second game of a two-match road trip, the USC Upstate women's soccer team fell to Belmont by a score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Bruins move to 7-4-1 overall and remain perfect in Atlantic Sun play at 4-0-0. Meanwhile the Spartans record falls to 0-13-0 and 0-4-0 in league play.
Belmont got on the board first when Erica Carter scored her second goal of the season in the 13th-minute to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Belmont scored again in the 24th-minute when Jayme Trocino put her shot past Spartan keeper Brittany Daughtry.
Belmont tacked on another goal in the 33rd-minute to set the halftime score at 3-0. Lauren Paynter scored her fifth goal of 2009 off of an assist from teammate Annie Musacchio.
The Bruins pushed the lead to 5-0 with goals in the 54th and 69th-minutes. Those goals were scored by Jessica Rix and Lauren Paynter.
The Spartans scored its lone goal of the match in the 76th-minute. Daphnee Cadet scored her third goal of the season after putting her rebound shot past Bruin keeper Renee Pilch. Pilch was the third Bruin to play between the pipes on Sunday.
Sari Lin played the entire first half and was credited with the win, while Ashley Hudak played the first 14 minutes of the second half with Pilch playing the final 31 minutes. The Belmont trio combined to record six saves.
Spartan keeper Brittany Daughtry recorded 10 saves against the Bruins on Sunday. Daughtry has appeared in three games this season for Upstate and has recorded 10 or more saves in every match.
Belmont recorded 25 shots on Sunday with 16 of those being directed at the goal. Upstate totaled nine shots with seven of those being on target. Belmont also owned an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Upstate will return to the pitch on Saturday night when they host A-Sun foe Campbell. Kickoff between the Spartans and the Camels is slated for 7:00 p.m. at County University Soccer Stadium.
