Local Elementary School Children to Attend Upstate’s “Pack the House” Game Saturday
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team is set to participate in the fifth annual NCAA "Pack the House Challenge," playing host to Atlantic Sun Conference opponent ETSU Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
The "Pack the House Challenge" is an NCAA initiative to boost attendance for women's basketball games. Upstate will compete against other schools in the Atlantic Sun to see who can bring in the most fans for their designated "Pack the House" contests.
Upstate has partnered with Jesse Boyd Elementary School in Spartanburg, S.C., to help the Spartans "Pack the House." There will be 350 Jesse Boyd students in attendance at Saturday's game against ETSU. But what about the other 468 seats in the Hodge Center?
The Upstate Athletic Department has designated Saturday's 4:30 p.m. contest as a "Go Green" game. "Go Green" is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) initiative aimed at encouraging student-athletes and coaches to come and support other Spartan athletic programs outside of their own teams.
There will also be a drawing to give away a new iPad2 to a lucky Upstate student. In order to register for the iPad2 giveaway, students are required to present their Upstate student ID. Be sure to visit the registration table inside the Hodge Center lobby prior to the start of the game. Registration closes at 5 p.m. and students must be present to win.
