Spartans Drop Road Tilt at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped its second and final match in the Music City as Lipscomb held on for a 4-3 win Saturday at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

Ramiro Blanco and Matthias Kidler claimed an 8-4 win at doubles No. 1, but the Bison were victorious at No. 2 and No. 3, both by scores of 9-8.

In singles action, Blanco, Yvon Haessig and Tyler Grove claimed victories.  Blanco won a three-set thriller over Oliver Strecker, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 at singles No. 1, while Haessig rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Colby Shaw at singles No. 4.  Grove surrendered just one set at singles No. 6 as he downed Miguel Cortez, 6-1, 6-0.

Pierre Vernin (no. 5) dropped a heartbreaking 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 match to Tanner Brown allowing Lipscomb to claim the victory over the Spartans.

Upstate will return to action this weekend as they host Kennesaw State and Mercer in the final two home matches of the season.
