Spartans Set to Face Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson this Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After losing a pair of conference matches last weekend, the USC Upstate men's tennis team will return to action Friday when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast in the home A-Sun opener.

The Spartans will also battle Stetson (Sat., 10 a.m.) before making a trip to Nashville, Tenn., next weekend.

Spartan Volleys…

Gonzalo Blanco has won five consecutive singles matches.

• After a three match win-streak (3/6-12), the Spartans dropped a pair of conference matches in Jacksonville, Fla., last weekend.

• Upstate picked up a 5-2 victory over No. 61 Nicholls State (Mar. 6).

• Upstate claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory over former A-Sun foe Campbell (Feb. 24).

Ramiro Blanco claimed a pair of singles victories in Birmingham, Ala.  At singles No. 1, Blanco defeated David Zimmerman (UAB), 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-4 and Carson Kadi (Samford), 7-5, 6-2.

Matthias Kidler, Yvon Haessig and Tyler Grove dropped three-set matches at Samford (Feb. 5).

• Ramiro Blanco was named the A-Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Week (Feb. 1) after helping Upstate claim a 5-2 victory at Gardner-Webb in the Spartans' season opener (Jan. 26).  He picked up his 54th career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over GWU's Adam Knutsson-Sundblad at singles No. 2.
