Men’s Tennis to Open Home Slate Wednesday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After opening the season with three-straight road matches, the USC Upstate men's tennis team will host Anderson University in its home opener Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Over the weekend, the Spartans dropped a pair of contests in Birmingham, Ala. Upstate fell to UAB, 5-1, in a weather-shortened match Saturday and dropped a 5-2 decision at Samford Sunday.
Spartan Volleys…
• Ramiro Blanco claimed a pair of singles victories over the weekend. At singles No. 1, Blanco defeated David Zimmerman (UAB), 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-4 and Carson Kadi (Samford), 7-5, 6-2.
• Matthias Kidler, Yvon Haessig and Tyler Grove dropped three-set matches at Samford on Sunday.
• Ramiro Blanco was named the A-Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Week (2/1/12) after helping Upstate claim a 5-2 victory at Gardner-Webb in the Spartans' season opener (1/26/12). He picked up his 54th career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over GWU's Adam Knutsson-Sundblad at singles No. 2.
• The trio of Matthias Kidler, Pierre Vernin and Tyler Grove picked up their first singles victory in the Spartans win at GWU.
• The Spartans kept their perfect streak alive with the win at GWU. Upstate is now 10-0 (D-I era) in matches played on Thursdays.
