Spartan Quartet Advances in Singles Action at Elon Fall Invitational

ELON, N.C. – Highlighted by Ramiro Blanco's straight set victory over David Hopkins, the USC Upstate men's tennis team had a strong showing on day one of the Elon Fall Invitational.

In A-1 Singles, Blanco defeated Hopkins of Wake Forest by a score of 6-3, 6-2 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.  Hopkins entered the weekend as the No. 4-seed in A-1 Singles.

Matthias Kidler, competing in A-2 Singles, claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over East Carolina's Damien Brenard.  Yvon Haessig also competed in A-2 Singles, but dropped a 6-7 (7), 5-7 decision to Jordan Kaufman (Elon).

Gonzalo Blanco advanced in B-1 Singles after a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Coastal Carolina's Danny Heidecker.  Jacob Darling advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Steed Johnson (Longwood) in C Singles.

Gonzalo Blanco and Jacob Darling were the lone doubles team to advance on Friday.  They advanced to the A-2 Doubles Semifinals with a 9-8 victory over North Carolina State's Beck Bond and Rafael Paez.
