Men’s Tennis Set for USC Upstate Fall Classic

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate men's tennis team kicks off its 2011 fall schedule with the annual USC Upstate Fall Classic.  The three-day event begins on Friday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.

At last season's Upstate Fall Classic, brothers Ramiro and Gonzalo Blanco reached the semifinals of the men's doubles 'A' before falling to the duo of Eudaldo Bonet and Daniel Regan (Armstrong Atlantic State) by a score of 8-0.

In singles play, Ramiro Blanco rallied for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Larbi Lamzouri of Campbell in the second round of men's singles 'A'.  Blanco's tournament run was halted by Eudaldo Bonet (Armstrong Atlantic State) in the quarterfinals.

Spartan Volleys…

• The Spartans closed out the 2011 spring season with six consecutive conference wins en route to a third place finish.

• Upstate returns six players from last season's squad and welcomes three newcomers (Jacob Darling, Yvon Haessig, and Pierre Vernin).
