Spartans Set for Final Non-Conference Match of 2011 Campaign
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a split last weekend against a pair of Atlantic Sun foes from Florida, USC Upstate travels to Rock Hill, S.C., for its final non-conference tilt of the season at Winthrop.
Upstate will be looking to improve its 2011 record to 2-1 against Big South teams and a win would improve the Spartans all-time record to 7-2.
• Ramiro Blanco had another solid week last week as the junior posted a 3-1 mark and over the last two weeks, Blanco owns a record of 7-1.
• With the 4-3 win at Stetson, the Spartans are now 9-0 (since 2007-08) in matches that take place on Thursday.
• Since starting the season 0-7, the Spartans have won seven of their last 10 matches to sit just three games below .500 (6-9) and Upstate owns a 3-2 mark in league play.
• At South Carolina, Edgar Rodriguez stormed back from a 1-set deficit to claim victory over Ivan Machado in singles number one... Rodriguez was blanked in the first set (6-0), but won sets two and three, 6-4, 6-4... His come from behind win allowed him to post a 3-0 mark at singles number one for the week and he earned A-Sun Tennis Player of the Week honors on Feb. 23.
