Spartans Look to Continue Hot Streak this Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis squad will put its three-match win streak on the line this weekend as they welcome North Florida and Jacksonville to the Upstate Tennis Complex on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
After falling to ETSU in the conference opener on Feb. 26, Upstate has picked up wins over Texas-Pan American, Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.
Following the pair of weekend matches, the Spartans will have an eight day break before playing the final non-conference match of the season on Mar. 20 at Winthrop.
Spartan Volleys…
• Ramiro Blanco was a perfect 4-0 last week as he captured victories at singles positions number one and number two as well as a pair of wins at doubles number one with teammate Matias Di Pasquale... With the perfect week, the Spartan junior earned Men's Tennis Player of the Week from the A-Sun.
• With the 4-3 win at Stetson, the Spartans are now 9-0 (since 2007-08) in matches that take place on Thursday.
• Since starting the season 0-7, the Spartans have won six of their last eight matches to sit just three games below .500 (6-9) and Upstate owns a 2-1 mark in league play.
• At South Carolina, Edgar Rodriguez stormed back from a 1-set deficit to claim victory over Ivan Machado in singles number one... Rodriguez was blanked in the first set (6-0), but won sets two and three, 6-4, 6-4... His come from behind win allowed him to post a 3-0 mark at singles number one for the week and he earned A-Sun Tennis Player of the Week honors on Feb. 23.
