SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a perfect 4-0 week, USC Upstate men's tennis player Ramiro Blanco has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Player of the Week, the conference office in Macon, Ga., announced today.
Blanco helped guide the Spartans to an undefeated week as USC Upstate downed Stetson on Thursday by a score of 4-3 and bested Florida Gulf Coast, 5-2, on Saturday. He capped the undefeated week as he defeated FGCU's Matthew Rock, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, at singles number one.
The junior teamed with Matias Di Pasquale to win a pair of doubles number one matches. The Spartan pair downed Stetson's Cesare Gallo/Maksim Levanovich, 8-3, before beating FGCU's tandem of Carol Checchia and Dean Tsamas, 8-6.
In his other singles match of the week, Blanco rallied to claim the final two sets in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Stetson's Cesare Gallo at singles number two.
Blanco was also named Sprint Spartan of the Week on Monday and becomes the first tennis player to earn the award this season.
