Spartans, Chanticleers Set for Friday Afternoon Match

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After playing three matches in a five-day span last week, the Spartans play just one match this week as they welcome cross-state rival Coastal Carolina for a high noon match on Friday.
USC Upstate enters the match (0-6) on the season with four losses to nationally ranked teams. Last week the Spartans fell on the road at No. 11 Georgia and at Davidson before falling in their first home match of the season against UNC Greensboro.
Coastal Carolina enters the week 2-0 on the season with wins over The Citadel and Charlotte. Prior to battling Upstate, the Chanticleers will face the Mercer Bears on Thursday afternoon in Augusta, Ga.
Spartan Volleys…
• The Spartans are 5-1 all time against teams from the Big South Conference.
• Since making the move to Division I in 2007, Upstate owns a 21-4 record at home.
• Coastal Carolina is one of three Big South Conference schools on the Spartans schedule this season. Upstate will also battle Presbyterian College (Upstate Tennis Complex, Feb. 16) and will travel to Winthrop (Rock Hill, S.C., Mar. 20).
• Matias Di Pasquale picked up his first career win on Jan. 28 against Clemson at the ITA Kick-off in Knoxville, Tenn.. Playing at singles position number four, Di Pasquale downed Cal Hilsman as he rallied to win the final two sets (2-6, 6-4, 7-5).
