Before USC Upstate: Spent freshman season at South Carolina State and appeared in 28 games... Bulldogs finished the season 18-14 overall and fell in MEAC Championship to Morgan State (L, 61-68, Mar. 13)... Maxey played approximately 10 minutes per contest and averaged 2.1 ppg and 1.8 rpg.

High School: Played four seasons of basketball at Winder-Barrow High School for head coach Eli Connell... As a senior, Maxey averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game en route to First-Team All-Region honors.
