Green Named First-Team All-Conference

A-Sun Release | Green's 2011 Stats

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a season in which he broke USC Upstate's single-season school-record for hits, senior outfielder Blake Green (Rock Hill, S.C.) has been named First-Team All-Conference announced today by the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Green's selection marks the first time the Spartan baseball program has had a player named to the A-Sun's first-team.  It is also the second all-conference honor for Green who was named to the conference's All-Freshman team after the 2008 season.

Green became the Spartans new single-season hits leader in the first game of the series against Mercer on May 14th.  Green's single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning gave him 84 on the season as he surpassed Brad Wingo's (2006) mark of 83.

Green finished with 11 hits over the final five games to finish with 95 total hits to lead both the team and the conference.  He also led the Spartans in batting average (.399), at-bats (238), total bases (110) and on-base percentage (.468).  The center fielder ranked second in the A-Sun in batting average and sixth in on-base percentage.

In league only games, Green led the way with a .470 BA and 55 hits while ranking second in on-base percentage (.523).

The departing outfielder left his mark on the Spartan baseball program as he ranks in the top-10 in six different single-season categories.  He ranks first in at-bats with 238 as a senior and his .399 batting average places him fifth in school-history.  Green played in all 55 games this season, placing him in a tie for fourth while his 56 appearances in 2010 place him in a tie for fourth.  He is tied for ninth after being hit by eight pitches this season.

Green also finds his name near the top of four different career statistical categories.  He is tied for third in hit-by-pitch (22), fifth in at-bats (697), tied for sixth in games started (180) and sits ninth in games played (182).
