Spartans Set School-Record at Furman Invitational
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The women's track and field team set a new school mark as the 4x400 relay team of Jemeli Sang, Joan Tangwar, Carolyne Chelulei and Ashley Edmond finished second with a time of 4:13.22.
"This was a great tune-up meet for our team," said associate head coach Carson Blackwelder. "We had several first place finishes and personal marks today. I was proud of the squad's effort at Furman."
Abby Osborne claimed first in the pole vault after clearing a height of 2.75m. Meanwhile, Emily Minoofar placed second in the javelin after a throw of 25.93m.
Mike Meissner won the 100-meter dash after a time of 11.20 and finished second in the 200-meter dash (22.37). Meissner's mark in the 200-meter dash was .01 behind the race winner, teammate Matt Johnson (22.36). Michael Johnson gave the Spartans a sweep in the 200-meter dash with a third place finish after a time of 22.51.
Michael Johnson won the 400-meter dash after sprinting around the track in 48.96. Matt Johnson finished in second-place after a time of 49.81.
Perrish Goggins claimed a pair of first-place finishes as he claimed victories in the high jump (2.08m) and long jump (6.80m).
Upstate received another pair of first-place finishes from Justin Crawford and Eric Chapman. Crawford won the pole vault with a height of 4.60m, while Chapman reigned supreme in the hammer throw (50.32m).
The Spartans will head to Jacksonville, Fla., next weekend for the Atlantic Sun Conference championships held on the campus of the University of North Florida.
