SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wrapping up its first series of the 2022 season, USC Upstate baseball secured its first series victory of the new campaign, defeating Ohio 10-2 Sunday at Cleveland S. Harley Park to win the series two games to one.
For the second straight game, Upstate's bats roughed up Bobcat pitching staff, pounding out 10 hits while hanging 14 runs on the board, including 10 runs during a 13-batter fifth inning. Delivering the biggest hit of the game, senior catcher
Devin Buckner collected his first homer of the game with a grand slam to left.

Noah Sullivan tallied three runs batted in, respectively. Collecting two of his three RBI in the third inning, opening the scoring for the third straight game with a two-run hit.

Sawyer Worrell surrendered just two hits and a run over six complete innings before giving way to the bullpen trio of redshirt freshman southpaw

- B3: Opening the Spartan's scoring, Noah Sullivan brought home Grant Sherrod and Noah Myers with a single through the left side before Noah Rabon drove in Devin Buckner and Sullivan with a gap-splitting double to right-center.
- T4: Getting back a run, Ohio's Cael Baker picked up a run batted in on a sacrifice fly from left, scoring Spencer Harbert.
- B5: Starting the scoring off in the fifth how things started in the third, Sullivan and Rabon tacked on their third RBI of the game in consecutive at-bats. Continuing a string of Spartans to produce an RBI, Cameron MacIntosh and Cole Caruso drove home runs to plate the first four runs of the inning. Upstate took advantage of a pair of Ohio errors for their next two runs before Buckner capped the frame's scoring with his grand slam to left.
- T9: Stepping to the plate with the bases loaded, the Bobcats' Nick Dolan was hit by a pitch to bring home the game's final run.
Notable
- For the third straight game to open his Spartan career, Noah Sullivan supplied the first two runs of the game with a 2-RBI hit. His three RBI Sunday marked a career-high.
- Capping off a 10-run fifth inning, Devin Buckner slugged his sixth career homer and his second career grand slam, joining his grand slam on March 6, 2021, against Radford.
- Following up the 6.0 inning, one-run performance from game two starting pitcher Austin Morgan, game three starter Sawyer Worrell also allowed just one run over 6.0 innings of work, giving Spartan pitchers a quality start in two of three games this season.
