Volleyball Preview:  at UNC Asheville

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team hits the road in conference play Tuesday evening to face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at 6 p.m. from the Justice Center.

The Spartans (13-16, 8-6 Big South) are back in action after two conference wins last weekend against Campbell and Hampton.

Gloria Ikenegbu recorded a career-high 21 kills and added seven total blocks in the victory over Campbell while Madison Haake collected her 16th double-double of the season, and 64th of her career, with 50 assists and 17 digs. Lily Dempsey recorded her fourth double-double against Campbell tallying 11 kills and 10 digs. Dempsey and Ikenegbu followed with nine kills apiece in a 3-0 sweep of Hampton in USC Upstate's final home match of the season on Saturday. The Spartans held an opponent to .000 hitting for the first time this season and marks the second-lowest hitting percentage by an opponent this year.

Ikenegbu was recognized for her performance on Monday afternoon by being named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Emily Russell leads the team this season both offensively and defensively with 257 kills and 113 blocks.  Haake adds 966 assists and Duncan 369 digs. Ikenegbu and Russell rank second and third, respectively, in the conference in blocks while Haake is third in assists. 

UNC Asheville is 13-11 overall this season and 8-6 in the Big South after a 3-0 win against Campbell on Saturday.
