Volleyball Preview:  Campbell, Hampton

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team hosts its final home matches of the season this weekend, Nov. 2-3, when it hosts the Campbell Camels and Hampton Pirates from the Eddie and Ann Payne Arena inside the G.B. Hodge Center.

The Spartans host Campbell on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and Hampton on Saturday at 5 p.m. USC Upstate will be holding its Senior Night festivities following Saturday's match and is honoring Morgan Deaville, Callie Yeargin, Madison Haake and Payton Duncan.

The Spartans (11-16, 6-6 Big South) are back in action for the first time since last Saturday, Oct. 27, when they dropped a 3-1 decision at Winthrop. Lily Dempsey led USC Upstate offensively with 17 kills and also set a new career-high defensively with 10 blocks including nine assisted. Her 17 kills increased her consecutive match streak with double-figure kills to seven straight. Haake recorded her 15th double-double of the season, and 63rd of her career, on 39 assists and 14 digs.

Emily Russell leads the team this season both offensively and defensively with 240 kills and 104 blocks.  Haake adds 892 assists and Duncan 342 digs. Russell is second in the conference in blocks while Haake is third in assists. 

Campbell enters the weekend with an 8-14 overall record and 6-6 in the Big South, while Hampton is 8-15 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.

The Spartans travel to UNC Asheville on Tuesday, Nov. 6, for a 6 p.m. match.
