Volleyball Preview:  Charleston Southern

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team returns home on Saturday evening to host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a Big South Conference match at 5 p.m. from the G.B. Hodge Center. 

USC Upstate (8-15, 4-5 Big South) is coming off a 3-2 victory against Presbyterian College on Tuesday evening. Gloria Ikenegbu and Emily Russell both finished with new career-highs in kills as Ikenegbu had a match-high 18 while Russell added 17. Madison Haake collected her 12th double-double of the season, and 60th of her career, on a season-best 50 assists and 13 digs. The Spartans had five players, along with Haake, record double-digit digs in the match. Mikenzie Young-Mullins had 18 digs while Morgan Deaville and Payton Duncan had 14 apiece.  

Russell leads USC Upstate this season both offensively and defensively with 197 kills and 93 total blocks. Duncan has a team-high 284 digs while Haake contributes 749 assists. Russell is second in the Big South in blocks while Haake ranks third in assists and Duncan ninth in digs.

Charleston Southern is 9-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Big South after a 3-2 victory against Radford on Oct. 12. Addison Kaderli leads the team offensively with 137 kills while Naiomi Rivera leads in assists with 509. Madison Martin has a team-leading 293 digs. Charleston Southern is under the direction of sixth-year head coach Christy Mooberry.
