Nashville, Tenn. – Lipscomb overcame a 2-0 deficit to win four straight singles matches on its way to a 4-3 victory over the USC Upstate women's tennis team Friday afternoon from the Huston-March Griffith Tennis Center.
Isabel von Stryk and Anna Zoske won the first doubles match of the day when they downed Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck 8-2 from the No. 1 position. Sierra Troxel and Lorena Djuknic kept the Bison in contention for the point following their 8-3 win over Sarah Vande Berg and Lindsey Buenger at No. 3. Spartan seniors Taylor Cohen and Talia Rojas broke the tie and earned the point for Upstate with an 8-4 win over Melissa Kromer and Laura Kent at No. 2.
Von Stryk put Upstate ahead 2-0 when she turned in a 6-3, 6-0 singles victory over Welcher at No. 1. Troxel cut the Upstate lead in half with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Buenger from No. 6, while Kent knotted the match 2-2 following a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rojas at No. 3.
Kromer gave Lipscomb its first lead of the match after she posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Zoske at No. 2. Djuknic clinched the victory for Lipscomb by winning the fourth consecutive match following a 6-3, 6-4 win over Vande Berg from the No. 5 position.
Upstate returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when the Spartans head north to Highland Heights, Ky., to face Northern Kentucky.
