Biggerstaff Selected to Join Scrap Yard Fast Pitch

Spartanburg, S.C. – Former USC Upstate pitcher Christina Biggerstaff will continue her softball career in her home state of Texas as she was selected by Scrap Yard Fast Pitch to join its 2019 summer roster.

Biggerstaff was one of four players selected by Scrap Yard Fast Pitch along with Aubrey Leach (Tennessee), Kylan Becker (Ole Miss) and Jessica Harwell (Texas Tech). Scrap Yard Fast Pitch is an independent women's professional softball team located in Conroe, Texas.

"I couldn't be prouder for Christina," said USC Upstate head softball coach Chris Hawkins. "She has grown and improved so much during her time here at USC Upstate and I look forward to following her career in the future."

The 2019 Big South Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, Biggerstaff finished her senior season with a 26-6 record, 1.24 ERA and 268 strikeouts. She became the first Spartan pitcher since Holly McKinnon in 2017 to be named Pitcher of the Year. Biggerstaff compiled her second career All-Conference honor and first Big South All-Academic Team accolade.

Biggerstaff was named Big South Pitcher of the Week seven times this season. She recorded two no-hitters and one perfect game which saw her strikeout a career-high 16 batters in the season opener versus Youngstown State. Biggerstaff had 10 or more strikeouts eight times and did not allow an earned run in 18 appearances. She led the Big South in ERA, opposing average, innings pitched, strikeouts and wins. Biggerstaff is first nationally in shutouts while ranking in the top-15 in ERA, strikeouts and wins.

She concluded her USC Upstate career with a 44-16 record in the circle with a 1.61 ERA and 497 strikeouts in 407.2 innings pitched.

"I've been dreaming of playing professional ball since I was seven years old and it's crazy to think that this dream is becoming a reality," said Biggerstaff. "I have way too many people to thank but I just want to thank God, my family and USC Upstate for supporting me throughout these years. I'm forever grateful to everyone who helped me get to where I am and I promise to make all of you proud."
