Softball Preview:  Radford

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team plays its final home games of the regular season this weekend as it hosts the Radford Highlanders in a three-game Big South series at Cyrill Stadium.

USC Upstate and Radford begin their three-game series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Spartans will hold their Senior Day festivities prior to the finale on Sunday as they will honor Kayla Hussey, Megan Obier, Elisa Cecchetti, Kristen Wright, Brittany Case and Christina Biggerstaff.

USC Upstate (34-10, 14-4 Big South) has won its last 11 games following a three-game sweep of Gardner-Webb on Wednesday and Thursday. In the series opener, Christina Biggerstaff became the first Spartan pitcher since Holly McKinnon in 2017 to record 20 wins in a season. Alyssa Oakes continued her climb up the single-season leaderboard on Thursday recording her team-leading 19th home run and 63rd RBI. Oakes moved into a tie with Vanessa Flores (2007) for third-most home runs in a season and passed Shellie Robinson (2015) into fourth place for most RBI in season. She is two RBI away from passing Jessica Addison (2002) for third place.

Case has a team-best .401 batting average this season while Oakes leads the team in both home runs and RBI. Biggerstaff has compiled a team-leading 21-3 record in the circle with a 1.05 ERA and 205 strikeouts.

Radford (18-23, 8-5 Big South) dropped a 4-0 decision at home in conference play to Longwood on Thursday evening. Sydney Fisher leads the Highlanders offensively with a .421 average while Hunter Mundy has a team-leading 10 home runs and Destiny Freeman 31 RBI. In the circle, Kayla Huffman is 9-11 with a 3.10 ERA and 73 strikeouts. Radford is under the direction of second-year head coach Hope Creasy.

USC Upstate leads the all-time series over the Highlanders 4-0.

The Spartans close out their regular season with six straight road games beginning on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. against No. 16 South Carolina.
