USC Upstate Set For Final Conference Series at Stetson

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team will play its final ASUN series of the season this weekend traveling to DeLand, Fla. for three games against the Stetson Hatters at Patricia Wilson Field.

USC Upstate (29-16, 8-6 ASUN) opens its series against Stetson on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.

The Spartans opened their week on Wednesday evening dropping a non-conference game at sixth-ranked Georgia. Kristen Wright and Brittany Case both had one hit apiece while Karla Beasley and Kayla Hussey each drew one walk.

Beasley leads the team offensively this season with a .393 average and 13 home runs while Logan Morris has driven in a team-leading 34 RBI. In the circle, Christina Biggerstaff is 14-8 with a 1.69 ERA and 195 strikeouts.

The Hatters enter the weekend with a 24-17 overall record and 2-7 mark in the conference. Ashly Smith leads the team with a .417 batting average and Molly McLaughlin has a team-high 30 RBI. Lizzie Shubert and Maggie Fritts have both hit a team-leading seven home runs. In the circle, Tori Perkins is 15-9 with a 2.18 ERA. Stetson is under the direction of 22nd-year head coach Frank Griffin.

USC Upstate leads the all-time series over the Hatters 22-7.
