Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team will carry its 21-game A-Sun winning streak into the River City for a three-game conference series at Jacksonville Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., as does Sunday's single game.
Upstate opened A-Sun play last weekend and swept the series at Kennesaw State by scores of 16-3, 8-2 and 10-1. The Spartans went on a power attack, belting 10 home runs to down the Owls and open an early lead in the conference standings with a 3-0 record. The last time Upstate lost in the A-Sun was in the series finale at Stetson last year on March 12. The Spartans rattled off 18 consecutive wins to close the season. The Spartans improved to 19-4 overall with a doubleheader sweep at ETSU Tuesday.
Jacksonville enters the weekend with a 17-14 overall record and will open A-Sun play against Upstate this weekend. The Dolphins are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Monmouth on Wednesday after dropping three straight against Samford over the weekend. Upstate owns an 11-5 lead in the all-time series with Jacksonville and has won the last five meetings and six of the last seven.
Upstate is on a bit of a power streak. The Spartans have hit a home run in each of the last five games, belting 10 in the three-game series at Kennesaw State and four at ETSU. Shellie Robinson and Cheyenne Griffin top the team with 10 dingers apiece. Griffin enters the weekend just three hits shy of reaching 200 in her career, while Kendall Settlemyre is just two RBIs and three runs shy of reaching 100 each in her standout career.
