Women's Soccer Exhibition Preview:  Spartanburg Methodist

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team plays its only exhibition contest of the season on Monday evening when it hosts the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers at 7 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium. Admission to the contest is free.

USC Upstate begins its third season under head coach Tyson John and was picked to finish eighth in the Big South Preseason Poll. The Spartans return 16 letterwinners, including six starters, from last year's team that set a new school record for wins in a season while obtaining its highest RPI during the Division I era. The program also welcomes in eight newcomers.

USC Upstate returns its three leading scorers from last season in Abbie Ellis, Emelie Valenciano and Jada Kinlaw. Ellis led the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Valenciano added three goals and Kinlaw three assists. In goal, Samantha Munyon is back after appearing in four games and went 3-1 registering 16 saves and a 0.25 GAA.

Spartanburg Methodist finished 14-4 last season and concluded the year ranked 17th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
