Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team will play their 17th, and final, regular season match of 2017 on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans face NJIT at 1 p.m. The match will take place at Keen University East Campus Facility.
Upstate is 6-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the ASUN following a 2-1 overtime loss at Jacksonville on Tuesday afternoon. Abbie Ellis scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with an assist from Tori Brown in the second half to tie the contest but the Dolphins scored the game-winning goal just under four minutes into the extra session.
Ellis is third in the conference in points (15) and shots (45), tied for fourth in the conference in goals (6), and fifth in assists (3). Brooke Bailey is second in the conference in saves (59) and fifth in minutes played (1103:58).
NJIT is 8-8-0 overall and 1-5-0 in league play after a 1-0 non-conference victory over Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon. The Highlanders are led by Briana Hackos with four goals and nine points with five players having scored two goals each. Carly Berdan leads the team with 44 shots. Amelia Sapirman has made 51 saves with four shutouts this season.
Saturday's match is the third all-time series with the road team having won both previous matchups. Upstate was a 2-0 winner in 2015 while NJIT claimed a 3-0 win at County University Soccer Stadium last season.
