Spartanburg, S.C. – After playing its first nine matches against non-conference opponents, the USC Upsate women's soccer team will dive into ASUN Conference play on Friday night as the Spartans travel to Kennesaw State. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The Spartans have reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Week in freshman goalkeeper Samantha Munyon. Last week, Munyon made nine saves with two shutouts in her first two collegiate appearances and made a career-high six saves on Monday. She is 2-1-0 with a 0.33 goals against average.
Kennesaw State is 5-3-2 following a 2-0 loss to Furman on Sunday. The Owls have wins over Georgia State, Mercer, Morehead State, Samford and UNC Asheville with losses to Alabama, Middle Tennessee State and Furman. In addition to their loss against Furman, the Owls defeated UNC Asheville 3-0 and opened the season with a 1-1 tie against Winthrop in contests among common opponents. Astah Das leads the Owls with four goals and 10 points on the season. Jessica Sexton has taken a team-best 15 shots.
The Owls lead the all-time series 12-0 following a 2-1 win at County University Soccer Stadium in the 2016 regular season finale. The two teams had ended the regular season in Spartanburg in each of the last two years.
