Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team will open the 2017 season this weekend as the Spartans travel to Furman on Friday before hosting Radford on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Admission to Sunday's match and all home matches during the regular season is free.
"We are excited to get this season started!" second-year head coach Tyson John said. "We know that two very tough opponents await us in Furman and Radford, so our focus will need to be high. The work rate throughout preseason has been tremendous. I am looking forward to crossing this threshold into the 2017 season."
The Spartans welcome 15 newcomers along with 14 returning players for the 2017 campaign. ASUN saves leader Brooke Bailey is among the returners, along with Autumn Gore who led the team in goals and points in 2016.
In its lone exhibition match, Upstate went on the road and earned a 2-0 win over Charleston Southern last Saturday.
Furman leads the all-time series 8-0 after defeating Upstate 2-0 at County University Soccer Stadium on Sept. 1, 2016.
Radford leads the all-time series 4-0 following a 2-0 win at Radford on Sept. 4, 2016.
