Women’s Golf Preview:  at Amelia Island Collegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team begins its spring season this week, February 18-19, traveling to Amelia Island, Fla. to participate in the Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville from the par 72, 6029-yard Amelia National Golf Club.

The Amelia Island Collegiate is a 54-hole tournament played over two days with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Tee times are scheduled for 8 a.m. on Monday and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

USC Upstate is one of 16 teams competing in the tournament along with Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Marshall, Morehead State, North Florida, Sam Houston State, Samford, UAB, Western Kentucky and Winthrop.

The Spartans are sending out a five-player lineup consisting of Pan Paksanont, Beem Pabsimma, Brooke Hutto, Anna Chanthaphaeng and Marley DeFreitas. Kathryn Elliott will also be competing as an individual.

USC Upstate is competing for the first time since October 29-30 when it finished tied for second place at the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg. Paksanont was the top individual performer for the Spartans recording her second top-10 performance of the season finishing in a tie for ninth place. USC Upstate finished the tournament second in par 5 scoring, third in par 4 scoring, tied for third in pars and fourth in birdies. Hutto was second among the tournament field in pars while Paksanont was tied for sixth in birdies.

The Spartans travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. next week, February 24-26, to compete in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic from the Osprey Point/Oak Point Golf Clubs.
