USC Upstate Set to Begin ASUN Golf Championships on Sunday

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's golf teams are set to battle for the ASUN Conference championship and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals when it tees off Sunday in the first of three rounds of the ASUN Golf Championships played on the Legends Course at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga.

The men's course will play as a par 72 at 7,032 yards and the women at par 73 and 6,105 yards.

The ASUN Golf Championships is a 54-hole tournament played Sunday through Tuesday with 18 holes scheduled for each day. USC Upstate is one of seven teams competing this week along with Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Florida and Stetson.

Head coach Todd Lawton will send out a five-player lineup for the men consisting of Jordan Warnock, Matt Carter, Hunter Fry, Sun Paripunna and Reid Bedell.

On the women's side, the five-player lineup is made up of Pan Paksanont, Anna Chanthaphaeng, Brooke Hutto, Payton Culler and Sidney Dermody.

The men's team is back on the course for the first time since April 9-10 when it finished seventh at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn. Carter recorded his fourth career top-10 finish to lead the Spartans individually placing in a tie for ninth place. For the women, the team last competed on April 1-2 at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate where it recorded a season-best finish of second place. Chanthaphaeng posted the top finish for USC Upstate recording a career-best performance of tied for fourth.

Warnock leads the men's team in scoring this season with a 74.00 stroke average while adding two top-10 and one top-5 performances. Paksanont currently has a team-best 74.10 stroke average for the women and carded five top-10 and four top-5 finishes.
