Women’s Basketball Preview:  Brevard

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team plays its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday evening when it hosts the Brevard College Tornados at 6 p.m. from Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center.

USC Upstate (3-7) traveled to East Carolina on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 63-53 decision to the Pirates. Riley Popplewell collected her third straight double-double, and seventh of her career, with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting. Brianna Lewis led the Spartans offensively with 18 points while DeNisha Swain tied her career-high of 12 rebounds.

Lewis leads USC Upstate this season with 21.7 points and 6.0 assists per game. She ranks 14th nationally in scoring and 20th in assists. Swain and Popplewell add 10.4 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Popplewell averages a team-leading 9.0 rebounds per game.

Brevard currently sits at 6-4 on the season following a 69-55 loss at Piedmont last Saturday. The Tornados are led by Annalee Bollinger with 14.4 points per game while Destiny Williams contributes 11.9. Avery Lockwood adds a team-leading 8.5 rebounds per game and Ty'She Washington 3.5 assists. Brevard is under the direction of second-year head coach Donald Hudson.

The Spartans are facing the Tornados for the third time in program history with USC Upstate leading the all-time series 2-0.
