Popplewell Named Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate junior center Riley Popplewell has been selected as the Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week as the conference announced its weekly honors this afternoon.

Popplewell averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games last week against Western Carolina and Bob Jones. She recorded double-doubles in both games while shooting 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the field.

The Union Mills, Ind. native began the week on Dec. 4 scoring a career-high 23 points against Western Carolina and added 13 rebounds. She followed that performance on Dec. 8 with another double-double in a 101-53 victory over Bob Jones with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Popplewell was one of eight players to score in double-figures against Bob Jones.

It marks the first career weekly honor for Popplewell.
