Women’s Basketball Preview:  Bob Jones

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team returns home after a four-game road trip on Saturday afternoon to host the Bob Jones Bruins at 2 p.m. from Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center.

The Spartans (2-6) fell 68-64 in overtime at Western Carolina on Tuesday afternoon. Riley Popplewell and DeNisha Swain both collected their second double-doubles of the season as Popplewell set a new career-high with 23 points to go with 13 rebounds. Swain finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Lewis posted 18 points and a career-best eight assists. 

Lewis currently ranks first in the Big South this season with 22.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. She is also 10th nationally in scoring and 22nd in assists. Popplewell sits fourth in rebounds with 7.9 per game while Swain is fourth with 2.6 steals per game. 

Bob Jones enters the game with a 5-8 overall record after defeating Toccoa Falls 65-45 on Tuesday. Madison Shupe leads the Bruins offensively with 13.2 points per game while Delaney Edwards averages a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game. Bob Jones is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Mike Leviere.

USC Upstate is facing Bob Jones for the fourth time in program history with the Spartans leading the all-time series 3-0.
