Women’s Basketball Preview:  at South Carolina State

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team continues its four-game road trip on Wednesday evening as it travels to Orangeburg, S.C. for a 6 p.m. tipoff against the South Carolina State Bulldogs at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

USC Upstate (2-4) continued its road trip last Saturday with an 82-63 victory over the N.C. Central Eagles. Michaela Gibbons set a new career-high in scoring for the second time this season tying for a team-high 20 points. Brianna Lewis also finished with 20 points as well as six assists. Riley Popplewell and DeNisha Swain each recorded double-doubles. Swain also tied her career-high of six steals.

Lewis ranks first in the Big South this season with 21.3 points and 6.0 assists per game.

South Carolina State currently sits at 2-4 on the season after falling at Arizona 73-32 on Nov. 23. Kemoni Jenkins leads the Bulldogs with 11.8 points per game while Taylor Brown adds a team-high 9.5 rebounds per contest. South Carolina State is under the direction of first-year head coach Audra Smith.

The Spartans and Bulldogs are meeting for the eighth time in program history with USC Upstate leading the all-time series 5-2.

The Spartans conclude their road trip on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. against Western Carolina.
