Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC upstate women's basketball team returns to the G.B. Hodge Center to face a pair of Greenville County opponents as the Spartans welcome Bob Jones on Thursday and Furman on Sunday. Thursday's game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start while Sunday's tip-off is at 2 p.m.
Tamera Thorpe leads Upstate with 11.0 points per game. Morgan Williams is Upstate's top rebounder with 5.9 rebounds per game, which is ninth-best in the ASUN. The Spartans lead the ASUN with 10.4 steals per game.
Bob Jones is 3-5 following a 96-54 loss at Wofford on Tuesday night. Sarah Thomsen led the Bruins with 17 points followed by Sha'ron Brunson with 15 points. Thomsen is the leading scorer for Bob Jones as she averages 13.8 points per game. Mike LeViere is in his sixth season as head coach.
Furman is 5-1 heading into Thursday's game at Georgia. The Paladins have wins over College of Charleston, Davidson, Kennesaw State, Pfeiffer and UNC Wilmington with their lone setback coming at Gardner-Webb. Cierra Carter leads the Paladins with 16.3 points per game, followed by Le'Jzae Davidson with 15.2 and Celena Taborn with 10.4. DeAnneisha Jackson is the leading rebounder with 7.0 rebounds per game. Jackie Carson is in her eighth season as head coach.
The Spartans lead the all-time series over Bob Jones 2-0 and have scored 90 or more points in each of the first two meetings. This is the third consecutive season that Bob Jones and Upstate will face each other. Furman leads the all-time series with Upstate 10-6 and has won the last three meetings.
