Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team closed out its regular season on Thursday evening falling 6-1 to the Longwood Lancers on Senior Day from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate falls to 2-16 on the season and 1-7 in Big South play while Longwood improves to 13-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The Lancers took the early 1-0 lead over the Spartans after capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles match featuring Ankush Arora, who was playing the final home match of his career, and Fernando Bernardes went unfinished.

Longwood followed in singles play by winning five of the six matches to record the 6-1 victory.

Luka Eble, playing at No. 3 singles, earned his fourth victory of the season defeating Raisei Sakai in straight sets 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Eble concluded the regular season winning his final two singles matches in straight sets.

"It was a tough one today being short-handed yet again. I thought we went out and battled nicely but we just didn't quite have enough today. It was unfortunate that we couldn't send Ankush out on top, but we like our chances heading to the tournament. If we can get healthy and get a couple decent practices in, I think we can definitely make a run in the tournament if a couple of breaks go our way." – Tim McLane, head coach

The 2019 Big South Men's Tennis Championship will be hosted by Radford, April 17-20, at the Radford University Tennis Complex.
