USC Upstate Closes out Road Trip with Loss at Radford

Radford, Va. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team concluded a 10-match road trip on Wednesday afternoon dropping a 6-1 decision in conference play to the Radford Highlanders at the Radford Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate falls to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in the Big South while Radford improves to 14-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

The Spartans captured the doubles point for the second straight match after receiving wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to go ahead of the Highlanders 1-0.

The No. 2 doubles combination of Luka Eble and Francisco Neto got things started for USC Upstate winning their second match of the season in convincing fashion, 6-0, over Alexandros Caldwell and Michiel Meekers.

After Radford evened the score with a win at No. 3, the Spartans secured the point after Ankush Arora and Fernando Bernardes, playing at No. 1, recorded their team-leading fourth win this season defeating Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes 7-5.

The Highlanders swept all six singles matches to pick up the 6-1 victory. USC Upstate sent three matches into the third set with Arora at No. 1, Neto at No. 2 and Bernardes at No. 3.

The Spartans close out their regular season with four consecutive home matches beginning on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Gardner-Webb.
