Mercer Downs USC Upstate in Non-Conference Play

Macon, Ga. – The Mercer Bears captured four singles matches on Monday afternoon en route to a 4-1 victory over the USC Upstate men's tennis team in non-conference action at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center.

USC Upstate falls to 1-7 on the season while Mercer improves to 7-8 overall.

DOUBLES
The two teams did not play the doubles point due to the expectation of inclement weather in the Macon area.

SINGLES
The Bears won singles matches at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the 4-1 win. Francisco Neto won his No. 2 singles match while Lucas Percy sent his No. 3 match into the third set.

Neto captured his third singles win of the season, all at the No. 2 position, defeating Fernando Guardia in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.

Percy went into the third set of his No. 3 singles match against Stathis Tsiranidis. Tsiranidis took the first set 6-4 before Percy responded with a 6-2 win in set two. The third, and final, set would go to Tsiranidis by a score of 6-3.
