Clinton, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision in Big South play to the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Thursday afternoon from Templeton Tennis Courts.

USC Upstate falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Big South while Presbyterian improves to 8-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Blue Hose captured the doubles point, and took a 1-0 lead over the Spartans, after securing wins at No. 2 and No. 3. USC Upstate was victorious in the No. 1 doubles match as the combination of Ankush Arora and Fernando Bernardes defeated Oscar Alvarez and Daniel Stenger 6-3.

Presbyterian then won four of the six singles matches to win the contest 5-2. Arora and Bernardes both won their respective singles matches with Arora playing at No. 1 and Bernardes No. 3. Francisco Neto, playing in the No. 2 match, also sent his contest into the third set.

Arora won his second straight singles match after Stenger retired with the score at 6-2, 5-6. Bernardes has now won three singles matches in a row with a three-set victory against Alberto Conde 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Neto went into the third set of his No. 2 singles match versus Max Benson. Benson would win the match 6-2, 6-7, 11-9.

"This conference is always tough to go on the road. I thought we competed well as a team but we just made too many unforced errors and we didn't take advantage of deuce point opportunities. We are about to hit the road for spring break so hopefully some time away as a team will be a good thing for us and we can worry about only tennis for a bit and try to get healthy." – Tim McLane, head coach

The Spartans return home on Saturday afternoon to host South Carolina State at 2 p.m. from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
