Men’s Tennis Preview:  at Furman

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team returns to the court on Saturday morning as the Spartans travel to Greenville to face the Furman Paladins at 11 a.m. from Mickel Tennis Center.

USC Upstate (1-1) opened its season last Saturday splitting a non-conference doubleheader on the road against Belmont Abbey and Queens (N.C.). The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey in their season opener 7-0 before falling at Queens (N.C.) 4-3.

Fernando Bernardes and Francisco Neto both collected two wins for USC Upstate in singles play while Bernardes/Frederick Sydow and Ankush Arora/Lucas Percy both went 2-0 in doubles competition.

Furman (2-3) is coming off a 4-3 victory at Belmont last Saturday. Jake Bhangdia leads the Paladins in singles play with a 4-1 record at the No. 4 position. In doubles play, the combinations of Ivan Mitric/James Roelofse and Drew Singerman/Clarke Wilson have both won two matches. Furman is led by eighth-year head coach Kelly Jones.

The Spartans are facing Furman for the seventh time in program history with the Paladins holding a 5-1 lead in the all-time series. Furman defeated USC Upstate 5-2 last season in Greenville.

The Spartans open Big South play on Friday, February 15 at 2 p.m. when they host the Winthrop Eagles in their home opener.
